Using Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs as a starting point I broke down happiness into fifteen categories; love, need, smiling, experience, boredom, peril, achievement, wellbeing, freedom, risk, security (financial), hunger, relaxation, satisfaction and tiredness.
I studied my happiness for fourteen hours on the 8 January 2008, looking at how I felt in each of the different categories, from one to ten. Ten always represents the most happy and one the least. I mapped this data visually to communicate this more accessibly rather than representing with numbers. Here we can see how happy I was, both at a glance and in detail without having to refer to anything.
Part 1 In this diagram the rings emanating from the centre each represent fifteen minutes, the distance from the previous ring is determined by the happiness I was feeling in each category.
